Intro – 소문난 감자탕 성수동
Somunnan Seongsu Gamjatang is one of the most famous local restaurants in Seongsu, known for its rich broth, generous portions, and pork bones with plenty of meat.
I visited on a weekday just before lunch and got incredibly lucky. This place is usually known for long waiting lines, but I was able to walk in without waiting at all.
Once the food arrived, I quickly understood why people willingly wait in long lines here.

The restaurant is about a 5-minute walk from Seongsu Station Exit 4, making it easy to visit while exploring the area.

The menu is simple and focused on gamjatang.

I ordered the individual gamjatang bowl.
The first thing that stood out was the portion size. The bowl arrived piled high with pork bones, soft napa cabbage, and thick red broth. Even a single serving felt surprisingly generous.
The pork was tender and easy to pull apart with chopsticks. There was much more meat than expected, so the portion felt well worth the price.
The broth was rich, deep, and savory with a slightly spicy finish. It had the kind of comforting gamjatang flavor that made me keep reaching for another spoonful.
Even before entering, I noticed signs explaining the waiting system in Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese, showing how popular this place is with both locals and foreign visitors.
One thing that impressed me was how fast the tables turned over. Even though this restaurant often has long waiting lines, the staff moved customers quickly and efficiently, so the line seemed to move faster than expected.

- Solo diners may be guided to counter seats.
- Table turnover is surprisingly fast despite long lines.

Final Thoughts
If you want to try one of the most famous local restaurants in Seongsu, Somunnan Seongsu Gamjatang is absolutely worth visiting.
The rich broth, generous portions, and tender meat make it easy to understand why locals keep coming back. Even better, the restaurant runs very efficiently, so waiting time often feels shorter than expected.
Considering how busy this place usually gets, getting in without waiting felt incredibly lucky.
