Intro – 종묘
Located in the heart of Jongno, 종묘 is one of the most unique cultural heritage sites in Seoul where visitors can experience a traditional Korean royal ancestral ritual that has continued for over 600 years.
Originally built in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty, Jongmyo was used to perform royal ancestral rites for kings and queens. Today, it is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also the official venue for the Jongmyo Daeje, one of the world’s only surviving royal ancestral ritual festivals still performed in its original
location.
Visitors can also watch seasonal reenactment performances of 종묘제례악, a UNESCO-listed Korean Royal Ritual Music and Dance performance held inside the shrine grounds between spring and autumn.
