If you are looking for a hearty Korean meal near Gyeongbokgung Palace, Naju So Naju Gomtang is an easy restaurant to add to your day in Jongno.
I tried two of the main dishes here: Naju Gomtang and Naju Galbitang.
There is also a nice lunchtime bonus. Between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM, free unlimited Dongdongju is available from the self-service bar.
Inside the Restaurant

The restaurant has a casual Korean dining atmosphere with plenty of tables.
It is comfortable for a quick lunch, whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with family.
The location is especially convenient if you are visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace or exploring Seochon.
Naju Gomtang – ₩11,000

Naju Gomtang is served with sliced beef, green onions and egg garnish in a clear beef broth.
Unlike some milky Korean beef soups, Naju-style gomtang has a clearer broth.
The rice is already inside the soup, making it an easy and filling one-bowl meal.
How I Eat Naju Gomtang
1. Start with the Beef
Take a slice of tender beef from the soup and dip it into the dipping sauce.
I like to try the beef first before eating it together with the rice and broth.
2. Eat the Rice, Beef and Broth Together

Scoop up the rice and beef together with the hot broth.
You get the rice, beef and soup all in one spoonful.
3. Add Kimchi
Put a piece of kimchi on top of your next spoonful.
The spicy and crunchy kimchi goes especially well with the warm beef broth.
Galbitang – ₩15,000

If you want a meatier meal, try the Naju Galbitang.
It comes with large beef short ribs in a clear broth, and unlike the Gomtang, the rice is served separately.
How to Enjoy Naju Galbitang
1. Separate the Beef from the Bone
Take a beef rib out of the soup and place it on the small side plate.
Separate the tender beef from the bone.
2. Dip the Beef in the Sauce
Dip the beef into the dipping sauce and enjoy the meat first.

3. Add the Rice
After enjoying some of the beef, add the separately served rice to the hot Galbitang broth.
Mix it gently and let the rice soak up the broth.
4. Finish with Kimchi
Add a piece of kimchi on top of a spoonful of rice and broth.
The hot Galbitang, rice and kimchi make a simple but satisfying combination.
Free Unlimited Dongdongju at Lunch

Between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM, free unlimited Dongdongju is available from the self-service bar.
Dongdongju is a traditional Korean rice alcohol similar to makgeolli.
You can use the aluminum kettles at the self-service area and pour it yourself.
If you want to try Dongdongju with Gomtang or Galbitang, lunchtime is the best time to visit.
